There are a couple of options for parents who cannot pick up their child or children when the dismissal bell rings. LAUSD offers a free after school program that provides supervised, unstructured activities on the upper playground. A second, paid option with enrichment activities is offered by STAR Education.
Youth Services After School Care
The LAUSD Youth Services Program provides free, supervised after school care on the Topanga Elementary Charter School upper playground from school closing time each day until 6 P.M. This option is available for students in grades 2 through 6.
There is no charge for this program. The after-school playground is not, however a “child care” program and may be closed in the absence of the playground director. If this occurs, we will have to call you or someone on your emergency card to pick your child up.
Arrangements for staying on the after-school playground are to be made before your child comes to school. Do not call the school office to make these arrangements with your child. We are not able to deliver messages during the instructional day.
