It was REALLY raining hard for most of today – but we’re still standing, and we know that our plants really needed all this rain. Let’s remember that our roads are especially dangerous during the rain, especially when we have drivers who do not modify their driving habits for hazardous condition.
Unfortunately, the rain caused us to cancel our Friday morning assembly – so the student council did not have a chance to remind everyone that they have thought up an new spirit day for next Friday (the 27th ) – Character Day. Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from a book or movie. Have fun but remember – no masks or face paint, or anything that would distract others in school (and be sure you can still play safely on the playground with proper shoes!)
The School Experience Survey
The School Experience Survey is an annual survey administered at all LAUSD schools. The survey reports give each school important insight into what staff, students and parents think about their school's learning environment.
The survey was sent home this week in an envelope. Parents can either fill it out and send it back to school with your child (or drop it off in the office) – or there is an option to fill it out online using the code provided on the form. Either way, please take the time to complete the survey. The information from this survey turns into our School Report Card (which also went home this week with the results from last year’s survey). On our new Report Card it shows that we had 57% of our parents completing the survey last year. While this was an improvement from the year before (41%), we should have a much higher percentage to reflect our high level of parent involvement. Thanks!
Family Movie Night This Saturday – The Secret Life of Pets
This Saturday, January 21, 2017, TEP is hosting Movie Night here in the Topanga Elementary auditorium. Doors will open at 3:00 for seating and eating (it’ll be floor seating – so bring your own blanket or floor pillows) and the film will screen at 3:30 pm. It’ll be a fun event for the whole family, and 100% of the proceeds (food, drinks and suggested donation) will go to TEP. We will also be screening a short film on monarch butterflies, and there will be seeds and information available for butterfly lovers (and who doesn’t love butterflies?)
Topanga Alumni Cabaret at Froggy’s
All Topanga Elementary families and teachers are invited to join a celebration of Topanga Elementary Theater Arts (TETA) for an evening of music from our student alumni next Saturday, January 28th at Froggy's!
Come to Froggy's next Saturday evening to enjoy performances by our own alumni, including favorites they performed during their time at Topanga Elementary as well as new and original work. Doors open at 5pm and show starts at 6pm. And yes, Froggy's kitchen will be open, and our program is the main event that night - so come out in support of Theater Arts at Topanga Elementary!
See you at the movies,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
