Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Tobisman’s Class
Today I conducted our second volunteer training for the new school year. Both trainings were well attended, and we’ll have another one in two weeks. If you can’t make it to any of the regularly scheduled trainings, see me and I will try to put a group together for another date and time.
Parking is an increasingly precious commodity here at school, but if we don’t respect others and the rules that help us get along, we set a bad example for our children. Please comply with our signs that either reserve parking for our staff or our spots that are marked reserved for families who participated in our annual donation auction. Also, please don’t ignore the “no parking” sign on the gate in front of the fire road – you could get a ticket for blocking this important access road.
The Leadership Council is the governing body of Topanga Elementary as outlined in our charter. Our first meeting of the new school year will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 1:45 pm in Room 8. We will be welcoming our new parent representatives, reviewing old business, and discussing special events (including the spring play) for the new school year. The public is always welcome to come and observe as well sign up to make a comment. If you have the time and inclination, please join us on Tuesday.
Check your backpacks for pledge forms for the annual Coyote Run, a chance for all students to enjoy physical fitness while raising critical funds for physical education and all the other donation-funded enrichment programs at our school (arts, science, teacher's aides, etc.).
The Science Speaker Series is Back!
Please join us this Saturday, September 9th at 3pm to enjoy our first speaker for the Science Speaker Series organized by the Science Committee as a community outreach! Our speaker: Dr. René Hubert, Ph.D. has fought cancer throughout his 20- year biotech career. In a talk titled “Fighting Cancer with Antibodies in Local Biotechs", Dr. Hubert will take us on a light-hearted multimedia journey about antibody therapeutics and the local biotechs whose scientists dedicate their lives to fighting cancer! Where: Topanga Library: 122N Topanga Canyon Blvd. This event is family friendly, so please everyone join!
