I’d like to express my gratitude to our Principal-of-the-Day, Willa Colgin, for doing an outstanding job today. She led the morning assembly, passed out the perfect attendance awards, and then visited all the classrooms to introduce herself and to pass out pledge cards to inaugurate National Bullying Prevention Month. Here is the pledge:
As a Kid Against Bullying, I will:
Finally, Ms. Colgin got on the P.A. system to help me tell the school that there is school on Monday. I just realized that the reason many parents were confused about this coming Monday is because some other school districts are closed on Monday for Columbus Day. Our school district, however, has not recognized Columbus Day for many years. Our school district will, however, be closed on Wednesday. Officially this is called an “Unassigned Day,” but it also happens to be Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, for those who celebrate.
I’ve been getting good responses to my latest plea for calm and good safety habits during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up (and on the street leading up to our school). A parent made a very good point which I’ll cut and paste right here:
With regard to traffic safety: Maybe a reminder to parents to share the traffic rules with their caregivers who pick up the kids? (i.e. grandparents, relatives, nannies...) since they may not be receiving the Friday Focus or be privy to rules).
I love seeing so many parents coming to our Friday morning assemblies, but more parents on campus means more parked cars. Please do not park in the spaces marked “STAFF;” I need our teachers and aides to be able to park and get to class as soon as possible.
Boo Grams Are Coming!
Get out the list of those you want to scare! We are going to start taking your orders for scary, spooky Halloween creepy crawlies for your friends and teachers. Your special Boo Grams will be sent creeping to those you chose on Friday, October 28th. Please put in your request for boo grams at the Spirit Booth on campus. Let those people who really freak you out know you are thinking of them! (insert crazy laugh).
Movie Night – Saturday, October 15th
Next Saturday (not tomorrow) Topanga Elementary is having another Movie Night! The film is Hotel Transylvania II, and just like our last movie night it will be projected on the big screen in the auditorium. It’s floor seating – so bring blankets or floor pillows, and there will be food (popcorn, hot dogs and grilled cheese and snacks) and drinks for sale – with 100% of all money collected going to TEP.
About That Halloween Carnival . . .
Save the date and start planning your costumes for Topanga Elementary School's Halloween Carnival, this year being held again on the grounds of the Topanga Community Center. Class sponsored carnival games, face painting, gourmet foods, dance party and live music! It's a community event not to be missed! All are welcome!! Saturday October 22nd 3:30 to 8:30 pm.
Have a Great Weekend – See you MONDAY,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
