Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Handler’s Class
Frozen Treat Sales: Ms. Santora’s Class
It was an amazing week for Topanga Elementary Charter. On Wednesday we joined forces with the National Bullying Prevention Center by wearing orange for Unity Day. That afternoon, Unity Day and P-22 Day merged on the upper yard as we waited for the arrival of Beth Pratt and her team from the National Wildlife Federation. While we waited we were treated to an impressive roster of guest speakers, dancers, singers and others – until finally Beth descended from the Backbone Trail to our school riding a white horse! It was a wonderful evening of science, adventure and community – kudos to Nikki Hexum, Misty and Jared Vest, Clark Stevens, Debra and Greg Grether, Richard Brody, Rena Benor, Alisa and Kent Hill, Sean O’Connor and Bridget Gardner for their dedication and hard work.
On Thursday we continued our P-22 Day celebrations in the auditorium. Our first graders entered with P-22 masks, Kinders got into the mountain lion spirit, and the 5th graders entertained us with short skits on the journey of P-22 as well as mountain lion safety tips. We wrapped it up by singing the P-22 song, composed by our own science teacher/lyricist Ms. Benor.
After recess we all participated in the Great California Shake Out drill, where we put our students and staff through a full scale emergency simulation including search and rescue teams going through the campus until all were accounted for. Hopefully, our families take this time to make sure everyone has emergency supplies at home, and a plan for what to do in case of earthquake or fire.
Thank you First Grade for your stirring rendition of the “Fire Safety” song, sung to the tune of “Bingo.” Now we’re really prepared!
