Thank you to all the parents who told me they enjoyed my presentation on Louis Armstrong this morning as part of our Black History Month celebration. I’m so glad to be a part of a community where so many people (and kids!) are excited about jazz – our country’s greatest artistic gift to the world.
If you didn’t get a chance to Heal the Bay at Topanga Beach last Saturday (or even if you did), you have another chance this Saturday to help the Topanga environment. The RCD of the Santa Monica Mountains, the same group that has partnered with our school for our TREES program, is hosting a tree planting event to restore the oak woodland habitat in lower Topanga Creek. The planting starts at 10:00 a.m., and will meet at the entrance gate on Topanga Canyon Blvd, located on the south-bound side, approximately 500 yards from the intersection with Pacific Coast Highway. Park along the shoulder of Topanga Canyon Blvd or at the Topanga Ranch Motel.
We just have one more week to collect those School Experience Surveys. Help us raise our SQII score by filling out the form (or doing it online) and then returning it to your child’s teacher or to the office. We appreciate your support.
Jump Rope for Heart on Friday (Early Dismissal: 1:35 p.m.)
Jump Rope for Heart is coming up on Friday, 2/12! Join our team to raise money for the American Heart Association and earn puppies (don't worry, key chains - not real ones) and prizes. Look for the envelope that came home with your child and/or register online: www.heart.org/jump or participate from your smart phone; go to the iTunes App store or Android Google Play Store and download the application called Jump/Hoops.
The Kindergarten Yard
While it warmed up a bit today, we had some very cold mornings this week (one day it was 28 degrees when I got to school!) Because of the cold we started sending our Kinder students straight to their classrooms – and the teachers found it was an easier transition in the morning rather than have them playing on the yard in the morning until 8:15 a.m.
While we are not changing Kindergarten’s hours (they will still begin the day at 8:15 a.m.), starting Monday we will only keep the Kinder yard open from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. After eight, we will walk the students from the Kinder yard to their classrooms, and then the teachers will supervise them in the classrooms from 8:00 – 8:15 a.m. This means that if you bring your Kinder child after eight, you can send them directly to the classroom, where we can keep them warm and ready to learn.
Valentine’s Day Craft and Bake Sale
Calling all creative bakers and crafters! Next Friday February 12th TEP will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Craft and Bake Sale to raise money for our school. We are looking for volunteers to contribute festive baked goods or little crafts that can be purchased next Friday morning and afternoon in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Please sign up to either contribute or help sell! Our school ROCKS!! Happy Valentine's Day!!
