Even though it was a short (four day) week, it was certainly a busy one. In addition to the Great American Spellcheck, we had a well-attended TEP meeting on Tuesday night. The TEP board, along with members of the Leadership Council and many interested parents, had a spirited discussion on the purchase of an additional teacher position for next year in the upper grades. Since the school budget isn’t sufficient to completely fund this position, TEP will be splitting the cost with the school – which means once again your donations are making a big difference in raising the quality of our school.
I’m happy to report that our school will be purchasing this position for the next school year. Knowing how many third graders we have this year, we knew we would likely be looking at three large upper grade classes for next year (one 4th grade class, one 5th grade class, and one crowded 4th/5th ).
Now, however, we can count on having four upper grade classes (two 4th grade and two 5th grade classes) next year, with lower class sizes all around. Also, two of the four teachers will probably be new faces to Topanga Elementary – in addition to the new position being purchased by the school and TEP, our esteemed veteran teacher Ms. Bordier will earn a well-deserved retirement at the end of this year. More on that later . . .
The Great American Spellcheck
Today your child participated in the Great American Spellcheck – a fundraiser that makes sure 100% of the money raised benefits our school. Your children did an amazing job collecting pledges and studying for the Spellcheck test! It was wonderful to see so many motivated students.
Now that the big test is over, we ask that you:
Pledges are due no later than Wednesday, April 13th. Please make checks payable to T.E.P., and please turn the donations in to your child's teacher.
Thank you for your support!!
BRAVO! STANDING-O ! ROUND OF APPLAUSE! WAY TO GO! HAT’S OFF (a few words from the TETA advisory council)
A big thank you to the production team and the scores of volunteers who worked so hard to make Shrek a magical experience both for the children of Topanga Elementary and for the community who delighted in the performances. The dedication, love and energy poured into this program are such a big part of what makes our school so special. We truly appreciate all of you who so generously shared your time and talents. Thank you for making our world bigger, brighter, and more beautiful this spring!
