This special Thursday edition of the “Thocus” should serve as a final, effective reminder – NO SCHOOL TOMORROW (FRIDAY).
Tomorrow our nation observes Veteran’s Day (formerly Armistice Day – the end of World War One, the treaty being signed on 11/11 at 11:00). I hope everyone finds a way to say “thank you” tomorrow to those who served our country.
Once again, I’d like to congratulate all of our Student Council candidates who showed courage and kindness during their campaigns. I was proud of all our students who participated in our election this week, and I look forward to working with our new Student Council as we continue to work hard to make Topanga Elementary Charter the best school possible!
The School Experience Survey – Due By November 17th
The School Experience Survey is an annual survey administered at all LAUSD schools. Usually the survey goes out in February, but this year the District has moved it up to November. The survey results give each school important insight into what staff, students and parents think about their school's learning environment. If you haven’t completed the survey yet, please do so before next Friday, 11/17.
Parents can either fill it out and send it back to school with your child (or drop it off in the office) – or there is an option to fill it out online at achieve.lausd.net/schoolexperiencesurvey using the code provided on the form. Either way, please take the time to complete the survey. The information from this survey turns into our School Report Card, and our last Report Card showed that we had 57% of our parents completing the survey. While this was an improvement from the year before (41%), we should have a much higher percentage to reflect our high level of parent involvement. Thanks!
Next week during PE, Coach Sean and parent Mark Cummins will be hosting the Annual Topanga Handball Tournament! Sign-up sheets are with your teachers. It's fun and exciting!!
The Native Butterfly Garden Project
Parent volunteers and the Wildlife Federation are joining forces with our students – and the work is getting underway. As the project moves forward I’ll have more news, but I’m happy to report that we already have some dedicated parents who are working to make sure that the milkweed will soon be blooming, and the butterflies are on their way...
Have a Great Three Day Weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
