Well, we managed to get three days of science hikes in before it started raining today. One of the many benefits of the rain, however, is that it softens up the trail - allowing our students to more easily find animal tracks. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped out this week – when we have more adults helping on the trails, the students can do even more exploring and investigating in smaller groups.
February is Black History Month, and many of our classes are studying the lives and works of famous African Americans this month. I’m dusting off my stack of 78 rpm shellac records so I can present some classic jazz and blues sides for the Friday morning assembly. That is, unless it rains again on a Friday . . .
Ye Olde 5th Grade did a fabulous job recreating colonial life inside and outside of their classrooms yesterday. I felt transported back at least 200 years while learning about food, clothes, and even games from the time of the original thirteen colonies. Not only did our other grade K-4 classrooms get to participate, but I also led our first school tour of the year through as well so they could see the sights and sample the homemade butter. Thank you 5th grade students, teachers and parents!
TEP Speaker Series Begins
Dr. Tamsin Woolley-Barker is an Evolutionary Biologist with an extensive background in leadership, innovation, and sustainability. She will be inaugurating TEP’s new speaker series, organized by our science committee, Saturday at the Topanga County Library from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Dr. Tamsin will teach us about how nature solves problems and discuss creative concepts from her groundbreaking book, Teeming: How Superorganisms Work to Build Infinite Wealth in a Finite World. The School Experience Survey – Updates
LAUSD determined that the paper version of the parent survey is missing the answer bubbles for Questions 27 and 33. The District is asking parents to create and shade in a circle in the place where the answer bubble should be, and this will assure that your answer will be accepted. Parents also have the option to take the survey online at: http://www.bit.ly/lausd2017
While we would still like to have the paper surveys back by February 10, the District has extended the deadline to submit online to February 17.
