Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Harlow’s Class
My Black History Month lesson for this morning’s assembly on Lester Young (“Prez”) and Billie Holiday (“Lady Day”) had to be postponed due to a leaky hydrant near the lower garden area that turned into a flood last night. It had to be repaired today, and that meant the water to the school had to be turned off. The school district supplied us with lots and lots of bottled water that was distributed to every classroom and playground, and a dozen portable bathrooms were brought on campus (along with several hand washing stations). While many of you may remember that several years ago we had to use portable bathrooms for weeks, I was relieved to hear today from the plumbers that they will be working through the weekend and fully expect us to be back to normal on Monday. Another interesting chapter to a very interesting year...
Next week on Friday we will be conducting our annual Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart). To quote the brochure: “By participation in the Kids Heart Challenge, your child will help save lives, learn about heart health and earn fun Heart Heroes gifts. The American Heart Association has worked with schools to help student learn heart-healthy habit for more than 40 years. Get healthy! Get involved!” Go to Heart.org/kidsheartchallenge and register online – we’ve already raised $1,285!
Meet Our New Librarian
I am Ms. Rit, the new school librarian. It's been lovely meeting your children as they become familiar or re-familiarize themselves with the school library. Last week, the students began to check-out books. Students in kindergarten and first grade classes check-out books that stay in their classrooms. Students in second grade - fifth grade classes are allowed to check-out books and take them home. Books are due within two weeks, and they may be renewed. There is an orange metal drop box right outside of the library, and students may return their books to the drop box anytime. Please help your child be responsible by taking good care of the books (some are old and worn) and returning them on time.
Thank you and Happy Reading!
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
