Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Kort’s Class
The birth of cool jazz and the long Presidents’ Day weekend were the subjects of this morning’s Black History presentation. While we honor the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln this weekend, we can also remember “Prez” (the nickname that jazz singer Billie Holiday gave to Lester Young), the first cool tenor player. Enjoy the three day weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, February 19th.
Thank you, parents, for bringing healthy treats, cards, pencils and other tokens for the students to share on Valentine’s Day.
Next week is outdoor science (hike) week. Some classes just went on a hike and will not be participating, but some are – your child’s teacher should be letting you know if they need volunteers next week.
Easy Does It
Rain is nature’s way of tell you to slow down and be cautious – especially on our Topanga School Road. It looks like we are in for even more rain, which is great for our oaks, but on the road it makes for an even more dangerous drive. Please slow down and be careful!
Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart)
February is American Heart Month and our Kids Heart Challenge this morning was a great success! This activity encourages our kids to take a health challenge and to learn how they can help others with special hearts, like our Heart Hero Finn – Click Here for his story.
In honor of Heart Month and Valentine’s Day, what if we all just made one more donation of ANY amount? For every $50 we raise, it enables the American Heart Association to train someone in CPR, which in turn can save a life! Imagine how many hearts our school could touch this week!
Don’t forget! Our goal is to have 100% participation, by at least registering online and taking the health challenge! Log in to our school’s webpage at http://www2.heart.org/goto/topangaelementary, send emails and make just one more donation to reach a heart in need by February 22. Every dollar counts!
Thank you so much for your ongoing generosity – so far we’ve raised $2,991.50 for the American Heart Association.
See you Tuesday,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
