Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Batz’s Class
I love to talk about and play samples from the storied history of Jazz (America’s greatest artistic gift to the world), and this morning I shared the tale of Louis Armstrong, the first great jazz soloist. From his beginning as protégé to the great King Oliver in New Orleans, to his apprenticeship in New York with the Fletcher Henderson band, not to mention his bluesy accompaniment to Bessie Smith, the Empress of the Blues, Armstrong’s story is as heroic as they come. And just when you thought the show couldn’t get any better, our Kinder students came onstage to sing about love. A tuneful way to start the day, to be sure.
Congratulations to Naila Green, who won the family pack of Disneyland tickets at our assembly drawing this morning. It just goes to show that reading really does pay off (and sometimes even literally).
Family Dance Night - Saturday February 10th 5PM-8PM. School Auditorium
This event welcomes any and all Topanga parents to accompany their child for a classic style dance night with the theme of "Making Memories Together". The dress code is formal for dancing under the disco ball in the School Auditorium!! Save the date, more details coming. This is a Party Book event, benefitting TEP:
Hooray for Coach Derek!
The man who keeps us all safe afterschool on the upper year, Coach Derek Saenz, was recently presented with a Certificate of Recognition for his contribution to the Beyond the Bell program and to our school. I heartily agree – our afterschool coach goes above and beyond every day. We’re proud of your accomplishment!
The Vocabulary Parade is Coming!
Last year our students debuted Topanga Elementary’s first Vocabulary Parade, and now they are ready to do it again! Third, fourth and fifth grade will be participating, and parents will again be welcome to come and view the parade. It will be held at 8:30AM on Friday, March 2 in the Auditorium. Last year’s event was ebullient and full of conviviality, even for a sesquipedalian like me.
Plant you now, dig you later,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
