Traffic Duty for the Week: Mr. Harrell’s Class
Remember – school is closed Monday to honor Cesar Chavez. We hope to see everyone back on Tuesday, April 2nd.
On Wednesday, April 3rd, our 5th grade classes and our science committee will be hosting Hart Street Elementary for our annual Science Day. We have 5th grade parents coming to help – but if you are the parent of a student in another grade we can use your help as well. It’s a great event, and you can see what your child will be participating in when they are in 5th grade.
The Pirates are coming!
VAPA, the committee for Visual and Performing Arts, is proud to bring you Story Pirates. On April 12 with two back to back assemblies starting at 8:30 a.m., TECS will be invaded by pirates.
The Story Pirates Greatest Hits Show celebrates creative writing by students from coast to coast in a big, hilarious sketch comedy musical performed by professional actors and musicians. The performance is based entirely on stories written by elementary school students, and part of the show is made up on the spot by the kids in the audience! Hope to see you there.
Reminder: Topanga Elementary Theater Program Survey
Thanks to all the parents who have already taken the survey - please respond if you haven't already!
Parents, whether or not your kids participated in the play, we'd love to get your feedback and suggestions for the Topanga Elementary Theater Program. Here is the link to an anonymous survey. The survey will be open from Mar 22-April 26. Thank you for participating!
The 5th annual TECS Science Fair is April 9-10
We Need Judges!
We are very excited about the upcoming TECS Science Fair happening April 9-10 on the school campus. The kids are working hard on their projects and it promises to be a great time!
The entire school will be brought by to view the projects on the 10th. We are currently searching for volunteers to help with the judging on that day.
To be a volunteer judge, you do not need to know anything about science (so don’t worry!). You just need to be able to chat with each participant to hear their story, and find the most inspiring, novel, exciting or dangerous (!!) science projects.
Please let Chris Pernin (email@example.com) know if you are interested in being one of the judges and approximately what time you can come by, and we'll coordinate.

Focus on Safety
After the recent Woolsey fire, we should all be aware of the risks of living in an urban wildlife border town like our beloved Topanga. Given our urgent need to prepare for future emergencies, Topanga Elementary School is a member of the Topanga Emergency Management Task Force, a coalition of county and local agencies responsible for safety.
On April 23rd at 1:45 pm at our school, representatives from the Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl's office, and TCEP will be sharing critical information regarding our school and emergency preparedness at the school leadership meeting. Please take the time to attend this important meeting and learn about our school's shelter in place policy and other aspects of how to prepare for emergencies.
On May 5th at the TCC, the Topanga Emergency Management Task Force is hosting an all-day community event called TOPANGA UNPLUGGED with practical applications to all aspects of emergency planning especially in a power free scenario such as the Woolsey fire. More info to come . . .
