Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Tobisman’s Class
Topanga Elementary students, teachers and parent volunteers compounded a lot of science into one week – and our experiment was a success! For the fourteenth year, our 5th graders welcomed 5th graders from Hart Street Elementary to our school. They were treated to lectures, hands on experiments, animal sightings and (of course) a hike on our unique trails. It was a wonderful day for 5th graders of both schools, and I’m so glad our science committee parents, 5th grade teachers and Ms. Benor (our science teacher) stepped up and made this happen for all the students.
We kept the scientific ball rolling (while recording its velocity) during our two day Science Fair. Last night we welcomed families to come and browse the displays, and today we had each grade level tour the fair. Every student who entered had a chance to present their work to our volunteer judges, and they did a fantastic job explaining their work. We will honor our science fair participants and our skilled judges at an upcoming Friday morning assembly.
Did you take pictures of our science fair? Kent and Alisa Hill would like to see them – you can send the school an email and attach any photos you’d like to share.
Meet me at TEPstock (a message from the president of TEP)
Please join us for a Woodstock inspired evening of food, drink, music, and both a silent AND live auction at the 1909! Be sure to arrange your babysitter today and get your tickets in advance at a discount HERE.
If you have anything you'd like to donate to be auctioned off (could be anything from art, to a service, to even a house in Italy for a week) please email me. We will provide you with a donation receipt as your item donation is tax deductible!
There’s an easy way to add money to your child’s account at the cafeteria – just follow this link: http://www.topangaelementary.org/cafeteria.html
While we cannot stress the importance of daily attendance enough, some families end up missing school because of travel outside of our many vacation days. One way to make up this time is by asking your teacher for an independent study (if you will be gone at least five days). The teacher will provide you with the permission forms and work to complete – but if it’s not all completed, you may not get full credit. See me if you have questions about this process.
Be Nice on Social Media
I try to avoid Facebook (and I’m trying even harder now, what with all the news about what they do with personal data), but I understand that for many it’s regarded as an effective way to share news and pictures with families and friends. Recently, one of our parents informed me that she read a Facebook post that seemed to be making fun of a child (a Topanga resident, but not one of our students). Regardless of where a child goes to school, please remember that whatever is posted anywhere on the Internet never really goes away, and that hurtful language (even in jest) can have lasting negative consequences.
It’s Time for the Yearbook
The yearbook is being assembled and we’d love to include your photos. If you have some great shots from the years’ activities, please send them our way.
The best way to send them is from your computer via www.wetransfer.com
Send photos to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Please be sure to include:
Your name, your child’s name, the teacher’s name, grade level and if the photos are from a particular event, please note that. It’ll make it super easy for us if you name each photo something unique so we don’t have to sort through thousands of photos called IMG0003. Get it?
We’d love photos from the following events:
PLEASE NOTE: If you have a child in 5th grade, please contact Mariam Mack at email@example.com
She is collecting baby photos and dedication pages. Deadline April 15th!
