Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Kort’s Class
I could tell that our volunteers enjoyed their Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast this morning – what was not to like? Once we coaxed the parents and teachers out of the lounge, we had time to honor our own Ms. Weisberg, who has been selected as one of LAUSD’s Teacher of the Year for 2019! It was a great time to show how proud we are of her, and a great start to a three day weekend.
I’ve said it before – our lower playground can be either a playground for children, or a parking lot for cars, but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. If there are cars on the playground, please do not allow your child to play there – moving cars and kids do not mix!
May 25-27: Topanga Days and FunZone volunteers (portion of the proceeds go to the school)
As always, the TCC and TEP are joining forces for the FunZone at Topanga Days! However, we need volunteers to make this happen. Please contact Heather Bryant email@example.com with days and times you can help out. We are asking for a 3 hour commitment -- and you get free admission to Topanga Days the day you work! Teens are welcome, and they'll get community service hours!
Help our school and have fun in the process.
As a bonus to Topanga Elementary parents/students -- you can fill out the FunZone waiver online to help speed things up: https://waiver.fr/p-7WGnq

A Message from Student Council
Character day will be Wednesday, May 29th.
Please dress like your favorite character from a book. No props or accessories.
ONLY one more week to the 2nd annual Butterfly Day event on June 2nd! We need volunteers and donated food. This is a fundraiser for science enrichment at TECS:
Topanga Elementary Science Committee, Topanga Town Council & The Mermaid present the 2nd Annual Butterfly Day — June 2, 2019 • 10am — 5pm
Butterfly Day is back at The Mermaid featuring live butterflies in the new Mermaid Butterfly House, native butterfly plants (plant your own butterfly garden!), environmental educational partners, a live bee hive, delicious food and drinks, face-painting, origami, seed bomb making, and art projects for kids. Live music by nationally-renowned artists Donna DeLory, Pearl Aday, plus Topanga rising stars, Aurora Finetti and Allegra Frost. Great fun for the whole family and the community to support the vital role of all pollinators in our eco-system. Admission is free!
Volunteers are needed for production, food preparation and donations, food and drink sales onsite, set-up and strike, Butterfly House monitors, docents, art projects and more.

YEARBOOKS ARE COMING!
The yearbooks will be distributed on campus before and after school on June 5, 6, and 7, at the Spirit Shack. If you bought one book for siblings to share, it will be held in the name of the eldest child.
If you missed the ordering deadline (we get it, it’s hard to keep track of everything!) we were able to do a small batch follow-up order. The price is $35. To sign up to order one of these yearbooks, please add your name/child’s name/contact info to the Waiting List in the school office. Do not leave a payment when you sign up—your yearbook isn’t confirmed until you get an email from Julianne Gorman telling you so. That email will include payment instructions.
You can email Julianne at email@example.com for more info on any of the above and she’ll get back to you as soon as she can!
Enjoy the three day weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
