Three cheers for Topanga – our attendance record was outstanding for the month of August! 78% of our students had good attendance (the District goal is 75% or higher) and our percentage of chronic absences went down to 10% - a mere quarter of what is was last year. Let’s keep it going – and with another long weekend upon us, it should be easy!
Today I conducted our second volunteer training for the new school year. Both trainings were well attended, and we’ll have another one in two weeks. If you can’t make it to any of the regularly scheduled trainings, see me and I will try to put a group together for another date and time.
Even though the Topanga School Road doesn’t have a yellow line running down the middle, it is only a two-lane street (one up, and one down). Don’t try to be a part of a third lane of traffic – there simply isn’t room (especially when lots of cars are parked).
The Leadership Council is the governing body of Topanga Elementary as outlined in our charter. Our first meeting of the new school year will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 1:45 pm in Room 8. We will be welcoming our new parent representatives, reviewing old business, and discussing special events for the new school year – including this year’s field trips and the upcoming fall Variety Show. The public is always welcome to come and observe as well as sign up to make a comment. If you have the time and inclination, please join us on Tuesday. The agenda has been posted on our school website.
Wanted: Overdue Opening Packets and Comfort Bags
Today was the day that the opening packet (signed and filled out), the District handbook and related paperwork (pesticide notice, etc) and comfort bags were all due to be turned in. We are still waiting for a sizable percentage to be returned to school – so please make sure these important documents are filled out and returned to us as soon as possible.
Enjoy the three-day weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
