Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Tapper’s Class
More parents showing up in the morning and afternoon for traffic duty – and it really does make a difference. There’s something about swinging your left arm forward as you gesture to stopped cars that brings the whole traffic circle to life...
Coyote Fun Run Pledges Please!
Please get any remaining pledge money to Lisa O'Connor in the front office during the coming week. We are trying to wrap things up and would love to tell you all how great our pledge drive was. Please help us by collecting your dollars and returning to the school. Thanks!
The New Progress Report Card:
For the last few weeks our teachers (and I) have been grappling with the new progress report cards that the school district adopted this year, and many of you got a taste of the new language as teachers sent home mid-semester reports home this week.
Every school sends these notices home halfway between a reporting period (the progress reports will go home in early November), but this year, as we learn more about the new cards, some teachers sent mid-semester reports to all their students, while some teacher sent reports only to a few students. Also, more than one parent was puzzled by the “Characteristics and Behaviors of a College-Prepared and Career-Ready Learner” phrase that replaces the old “Work Habits” and “Behavior” grades.
So we can all learn together, I’m holding a parent workshop next week after the Friday morning assembly in Room 8. If you got a mid-semester report you’ve already seen the language used on the new progress report card, but at the meeting I’ll have copies for everyone and we can discuss how it differs from what we’ve come to expect, and what it all means. Also, our teachers are preparing for more questions than usual when parent conference week comes – so there will be plenty of chances to learn.
