Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Tapper’s Class
Frozen Treat Sales: Ms. Hoffman’s Class
Several parents have asked me to again speak about the importance of traffic safety during the mornings and afternoons at our school.
More than one parent has noticed that right before dismissal, our two land school road is often turning into a three lane road, as folks in a hurry are driving up the road past drivers going up and down, which forces the other cars over to the side (where parents and children are walking).
Another parent writes: I have had to stop too suddenly too many times at the circle for people crossing in the midst of traffic from one side to the other rather than walking around on the sidewalk. Major scary. The other thing that is happening more this year than any other in my memory is people walking down the hill to their cars on the road side of the parked cars rather than on the path side of the cars. There is already barely enough room for the cars to drive up and down Topanga School Road so whoever walks in the road is, by default, in traffic. It is their choice, I know, but perhaps a little reminder might help those less aware?
Did I mention the fact that there’s no school on Monday (October 3)? For those who celebrate – Happy New Year!

Dear Parents of Our Eco-Elementarians,
Next week on October 4 is the first Tuesday of the month, which means…it’s Trashy Tuesday!!
This year, the school trash pick-up program has been elevated to an official school science program! It is made up of volunteer students and parents (YOU!) working to pick-up trash on and around the Topanga Elementary campus as well as raise awareness of the impact litter has on the environment. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month for approximately 1.5 hours after school from 1:45 - 3:15. Each meeting will consist of clean-up and discussion/ guest speaker/ experiment analysis. This week we’ll be discussing the importance of keeping our environment clean and setting up our year-long analysis of how much waste we can collect and how that will positively impact our school and community.
Please join us!! We’re welcoming all student and parent volunteers to participate with us in this exciting, educational and important project. Let your room parent know if your child and/or you will be joining us this Tuesday.
Meet by the lower stage (in front of the kindergarten/ first grade classes) at 1:45.
