Thank you first graders for teaching us the fire safety song this morning! (After recess, they got a visit from Fire Station 69 right here in front of the school). Not only that, we heard about Mix it Up Day (all over the world folks will be mixing it up at lunch in order to meet new people and learn to be more inclusive) coming up on Tuesday, a cowboy and his pardners gave us the lowdown on the Wild West Book Fair, and finally we enjoyed feats of illusion by a magician from the STAR program.
Our overworked office staff tries to handle important calls and messages regarding our students – but we can’t guarantee that messages regarding after school plans will be delivered to your child in a timely manner. Please try to let your child know about after school plans before school. Also, you don’t need to call the office to let us know you are running late for dismissal – if they are in grades 2-5, we will automatically send them to the upper yard, and you can meet them there. Kinder and 1st grade students are not allowed in the Youth Services program with Coach Derik.
Tuesday is a Regular Day – Hope You Enjoyed the Halloween Carnival!
One of my favorite things about Topanga Elementary School is how we have our big Halloween Carnival before Halloween! Our students and their families (including my wife and I) had a lot of fun dressing up, playing games, dancing to the band, and enjoying the food and drink.
Tuesday, October 31st is, however, a regular school day. That means no costumes, no candy, and no early dismissal. For those who want even more of the Halloween experience, I’m reminding our students that they may go trick-or-treating after school only with the permission of their parents and only with adult supervision in areas that are well-known to the adults and children. I suggest going before dark, but if you are out late be sure to bring flashlights and be sure dark colored costumes have some reflective or white markings on them.
Traffic is scary on any day, but on a holiday like Halloween there is a good chance that drivers are not completely paying attention... Be careful out there!
Boooooo Grams Thanks Yooooo!
What a successful eight days of Boo Gram sales! Today was the last day to purchase these unique holiday messages.
Booo Grams will be creeping to each classroom on Tuesday Oct. 31st. 100% of all Booo Gram sales goes to support our kids. Thank you for supporting our school! - Topanga Enrichment Programs (TEP)
The Book Fair is Coming!
Get your boots and hats ready because the Wild West Book Fair is coming to town! Our school's book fair will be kicking off on Friday, November 3rd with our annual Pajamarama event from 4-7pm. We will have some yummy grub for sale, story readers, books for all ages, a live acoustic band ("Los Padres de Topanga") and more! Saddle up to read and stay for some fun!
This fair is more than just fun--it is a literacy event and all purchases benefit our school.
See you there, pardners!
Oh, please check out this short video from Scholastic about the fair and the importance of reading.
