Our Friday morning assembly was rained out – soaking many clothing items in our “Lost and More Lost” department (we used to call it the “Lost and Found” – but no one seems to be finding anything). We used to wait until winter break to donate all the jackets and sweaters that keep piling up – but now it looks like we’ll be sending them away by Thanksgiving. If there’s an item of clothing you’ve been searching for, take a look before Thanksgiving!
Our overworked office staff tries to handle important calls and messages regarding our students – but we can’t guarantee that messages regarding after school plans will be delivered to your child in a timely manner. Please try to let your child know about after school plans before school. Also, you don’t need to call the office to let us know you are running late for dismissal – if they are in grades 2-5, we will automatically send them to the upper yard, and you can meet them there.
Monday is a Regular Day – Hope You Enjoyed the Halloween Carnival!
One of my favorite things about Topanga Elementary School is how we have our big Halloween Carnival before Halloween! Our students and their families (including me and my son) had a lot of fun dressing up, playing games, dancing to the band, and enjoying the food and drink.
Monday, October 31st is, however, a regular school day. That means no costumes, no candy, and no early dismissal. For those who want even more of the Halloween experience, I’m reminding our students that they may go trick-or-treating after school only with the permission of their parents and only with adult supervision in areas that are well-known to the adults and children. I suggest going before dark, but if you are out late remember to bring flashlights and be sure dark colored costumes have some reflective or white markings on them.
Traffic is scary on any day, but on a holiday like Halloween there is a good chance that drivers are not completely paying attention... Be careful out there!
The Book Fair is Coming!
Join us at the BOOKANEER BOOK FAIR - where BOOKS are the treasure!
Our school's book fair kicks off on November 4th with our Pajamarama G.R.A.N.D. event happening that evening from 5:00-8:00 pm.
G.R.A.N.D. stands for Grandparents, Relatives, Aunts and uncles, Neighbors and Devoted caregiver. This is truly a family and community event, so please spread the word! Our goal for this event is getting 1,500 books sold and into the hands of our kids and community! All purchases benefit our school.
Kids make sure to turn in your Pirate Flags by next Wednesday, November 2nd, for a chance to win $65 worth of books at the fair, and don't forget to wear your pajamas to school next Friday!
The Book Fair will be open after school the following week, November 7th-10th, from 1:35-4:00pm.
But wait there's more! We also need your help to pull off this event and to run the book fair the following week. Please help our school by signing up for a shift between 11/3 - 11/10 by clicking HERE.
Thank you for your support!
MEGA PLAY DATE!!!! Sunday, October 30th at 2 pm (A Message from the TCC)
We'll provide the bounce houses, prizes for the pumpkin carving contests and costume contest, and a massive grill. All you need to do is bring:
Please spread the word! This is a great community event, provided by the kind people at the TCC, to unite community and the Center together.
The First Tuesday of the Month is Trashy Tuesday
Please join us for Trashy Tuesday on November 1st! Meet at the lower amphitheater (kindergarten/ first grade yard) at 1:45. This month we will focus on recycling! We will discuss the importance of recycling, what is recyclable and what our local Topanga waste service accepts in the recycling bin. The homework may include thinking of ways your family can recycle more. We now have kid-sized orange vests so our pick-up efforts may focus on Topanga School Road, as long as we have enough parent supervision.
What is Trashy Tuesday?
It is made up of volunteer students and parents (YOU!) working to pick-up trash on and around the Topanga Elementary campus as well as raise awareness of the impact litter has on the environment. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month for approximately 1.5 hours after school from 1:45 - 3:15. Each meeting will consist of clean-up and discussion/ guest speaker/ experiment analysis. Please join us!! We’re welcoming all student and parent volunteers to participate with us in this exciting, educational and important project. Let your room parent know if your child and/or you will be joining us this Tuesday.

Show Your Support for Topanga’s Youngest LEGO Designer!
Topanga Elementary's own Elias Gorman (2nd Grade, Mrs. Tobisman), a huge Lego fan, built and submitted an original idea for a Lego "Minifigure Battlefield" set to the Lego Ideas website.
GREAT NEWS! Lego approved his design, and NOW he has to gather support for this idea in order for it to move into the next phase. (If he makes it all the way through the process, Lego will actually manufacture his set and offer it for sale!)
At this stage, he has only 10 DAYS to get only 44 more supporters for his idea in order to move to the next round! To check out his creation & pledge your support his design at https://ideas.lego.com/projects/152439
Have a Great Weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
