Parent Conference Week is here – beginning today (Friday) and running until Thursday, November 9th we will have early dismissal (1:35 pm) every day to allow time for our teachers to meet individually with parents and discuss their child’s progress.
On these early dismissal days (or any school day, for that matter) please do not pick up children other than your own unless it’s been prearranged. We know that our families like to help each other out, but the office needs to know, or else we get confusing situations where a parent is not sure which neighbor picked up their child – and we don’t know whether we need to look on campus for a missing student.
Even though we wait for a minute before dismissal time to open the front gates, the big gate that allows cars to enter the parking lot opens earlier than that. We do this so that parents can park before dismissal, but too often we have parents waiting right outside of a classroom (especially our two second grade classrooms). As you can imagine, having parents right outside the window is a bit of a distraction to teachers trying to wrap up lessons and explain tonight’s homework to their students. Let’s respect our student’s instructional time and not interact with the class until dismissal.
More than one parent has told us about cars that have been broken into while parked near campus on Greenleaf, and even on our own Topanga School Road. Be careful – don’t keep valuables in your car, and if you can’t take it with you, hide it.
On Tuesday, we will be holding our Student Council election here on campus. The posters look great, and we are looking forward to some stirring speeches.
The Wild West Book Fair just pulled into town!
Remember kids wear their pajamas to school TODAY and to the book fair family event from 4:00-7:00 pm. At the fair, we will have some yummy grub for sale, story readers, books for all ages, a live acoustic band ("Los Padres de Topanga") and more! Saddle up to read and stay for some fun!
We need to Wrangle a few more volunteers...
Please click on the link below and lasso up a shift.
Here's what's happening next week:
See You at the Book Fair,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
