Traffic Duty for the Week: Mr. Harrell’s Class
Today was Pajamarama – the most comfortable day of the school year. It was originally scheduled for Friday, November 9 (which would have been the final day of the Book Fair), but circumstances got in the way. Our students enjoyed getting back into their pajamas today as we concluded a week devoted to catching up and getting back to normal.
Our teachers spent time this week adjusting their plans so our students won’t miss the instruction they would have received during the five days the school was closed, and we’ve all tried to be extra receptive to our students’ emotional needs. Mostly, however, I think everyone was glad to be back at school, safe and sound. I know I am!
At the beginning of this school year we purchased an orange gate to use on the sidewalk at dismissal. While you can easily walk around it, it has helped a lot as we remind students to stay on the sidewalk in front of the school while waiting to be picked up.
Having the students wait in front of the school means that they are supervised while waiting, plus there’s more sidewalk to wait on and more street for parents to use when they round the circle and head back down to Topanga Boulevard. The problems we’ve seen when students walk down to the Boulevard include seeing children run into the street to meet parents in moving cars, as well as parents attempting to make U-turns in the middle of the school road instead of coming up to the circle, which blocks traffic going both ways. I can’t force your child to stay in front of the school as they wait to get picked up – but for their sake, please work with me by asking them to wait for you in front of the school. It’s a smart choice.
Here Comes the Play...
Focusfish is excited to announce that registration for the Topanga Elementary Spring Musical, "Mary Poppins," is now open. Auditions are after school on December 11th and 12th.
How do I sign up?
Registration forms & participation fee or scholarship request must be completed prior to auditions. Please visit the Shutterfly site and complete steps 1-4. Once you have done this, please forward your payment confirmation email or scholarship request to firstname.lastname@example.org. You will then receive a sign up genius link to reserve an audition time slot and a link to review character descriptions and sides (sample scripts.)
Additionally, please join us after school on Tuesday, December 4th for a free dialect and capoeira workshop to prepare for auditions.
Topanga Talking Stick

The Magic of Winter
Don’t forget – not only will Friday, December 14th (the last day of school before winter break) be a minimum day, it will also be time for our holiday extravaganza “The Magic of Winter.” Our students will be presenting a program featuring some new numbers as well as some old favorites – and there will be two performances: 8:30 am and 11:00 am. But that’s not for two weeks so don’t worry – I’ll remind you again next week.
Have a Great Weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
