A message from TOPANGA ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL
What’s Coming Up?
Mon Nov 7 Early Dismissal (1:35 pm) for Parent Conferences
Tue Nov 8 Student Council Elections (Vote!)
Wed Nov 9 Early Dismissal (1:35 pm) for Parent Conferences
Fri Nov 11 Veterans Day (No School)
Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Talan’s Class
Frozen Treat Sales: Ms. Weisberg’s Class
Parent Conference Week is here – beginning today (Friday) and running until Thursday, November 10th we will have early dismissal (1:35 pm) every day to allow time for our teachers to meet individually with parents and discuss their child’s progress.
On these early dismissal days (or any school day, for that matter) please do not pick up children other than your own unless it’s been prearranged. We know that our families like to help each other out, but the office needs to know, or else we get confusing situations where a parent is not sure which neighbor picked up their child – and we don’t know whether we need to look on campus for a missing student.
On Tuesday, we will be holding our Student Council election here on campus. Coincidentally, our nation is holding an election on that very same Tuesday. My advice to all registered voters: Vote!
TONIGHT is the BOOKANEER BOOK FAIR - where BOOKS are the Treasure!
Our school's book fair kicks off tonight with our Pajamarama G.R.A.N.D. event from 5:00-8:00 pm.
G.R.A.N.D. stands for Grandparents, Relatives, Aunts and uncles, Neighbors and Devoted caregiver. This is truly a family and community event, so please spread the word! Our goal for this event is getting 1,500 books sold and into the hands of our kids and community! All purchases benefit our school.
The Book Fair is open after school the following week from 11/7 - 11/10.
There are still some volunteer spots left for last week to help run the book fair. Please help our school by signing up for a shift between 11/3 - 11/10 by clicking HERE.
Thank you for your support - we can't wait to see you tonight!
A Message from Ms. Joanna, our Office Manager, on Project Gratitude
If you are like me (three kids/three trick or treaters), you probably find that at this time of year you have way too much candy on hand. Well, you can do something good with it and donate it to Project Gratitude!
Project Gratitude will send the candy to currently deployed, wounded military, veterans, or first responders - in other words, people who can use it a lot more than my little energizer bunnies can.
If you would like to also donate your candy (or anything letters, pictures, dental products, scarves, hats, etc.…the list is very long) please drop it off at the school office and we will deliver it to the Project Gratitude office. We will proudly let them know it’s from the students at Topanga Elementary. Thanks!
Pokémon – GOing, going, gone
Many parents and teachers thanked me for my announcement last month that Pokémon cards and figures would no longer be allowed at school. Students were bringing entire collections, and we had disagreements over trades, sales or missing cards – all of which distracted us from taking care of what we need to do here at school.
After the announcement, whenever I saw the cards I asked the student to put them away in their backpack, and they could play with them after school. Unfortunately, I’ve been getting reports this week from both our Youth Services coach and the STAR director that there have been similar disagreements over the cards and figures during the two afterschool programs. We all agreed that from now on, the cards and figures need to stay at home. If students continue to bring cards or figures to school, we will be asking parents to collect them from our office or one of the afterschool programs. I thank all of our families in advance for helping us with this effort.
