Traffic Duty for the Week: Mr. Harrell’s Class
Announcements regarding the upcoming Lion King Experience and Read-o-Rama dominated this morning’s assembly. One could sense the anticipation in the air for both upcoming events, but then I got a round of applause for the unsung heroes of the school (they keep everyone warm and comfortable) . . . the lost sweaters and coats! These fine items of apparel are only here for a limited time (two weeks) – and then they’re off to other children who need them. If you are missing a coat or sweater (and let’s not forget all the water bottles, lunch boxes and thermoses), take time in the next two weeks to visit the lost and found right there on the Friday morning stage. Catch them now before they’re gone for good!
GATE Parent Workshop – Wednesday 12/13 at 8:00 am in Room 8
On Wednesday, December 13th Ms. Tobisman, our GATE coordinator, and I will hold a morning workshop in Room 8. We will cover many of the aspects of the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program as it applies to our school and the district, as well as answering questions that have come up regarding testing, the high achievement versus intellectual ability categories and the 2nd grade OLSAT test.
Here Comes the Play...
FOCUSfish is happy to bring FREE workshops to all students of Topanga Elementary with its first Lion King Experience offerings:
Capoeira Workshop: December 8th (3-4:30pm in the auditorium)
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in Brazil mainly by Angolans, at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its quick and complex maneuvers, predominantly using power, speed, and leverage across a wide variety of kicks, spins and other techniques.
LION KING AUDITIONS
December 11-13 (after school in the auditorium)
Registration is open NOW and must be completed by audition day
Prepare your favorite song (please, no Lion King songs) and come ready to read sides from the musical. All parts will be cast before the holidays so that children can begin to prepare for the rehearsals, beginning in January.
The Magic of Winter
Don’t forget – not only will Friday, December 15th (the last day of school before winter break) be a minimum day, it will also be time for our holiday extravaganza “The Magic of Winter.” Our students will be presenting a program featuring some new numbers as well as some old favorites – and there will be two performances: 8:30 am and 11:00 am. But that’s not for two weeks so don’t worry – I’ll remind you again next week.
Have a Great Weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
