Kudos to our new Student Council officers leading this morning’s assembly, and thanks as well to Ms. Talan’s fourth grade class for announcing and spearheading our efforts to help the Topanga Women’s Circle with their annual Food Drive. I’m always pleased to be able to yield the mike to others at our weekly assembly – especially if it comes from our students.
In the last couple of weeks, we have heard of a few cases of head lice amongst our student population. Please remember to be vigilant by checking your child’s hair and scalp regularly. If you do find something, please let us know. In one case, the office only found out because a parent let other parents know – and eventually we found out. Like any problem, we cannot find a solution unless we know the problem exists. We don’t like surprises here in the office – we should be the first to know!
Outdoor Science Next Week
Science class will be conducted on the trails next week (some teachers asked me not to call them hikes because it might scare volunteers away – they’re really more like science strolls). Our science teacher Ms. Benor and the classroom teachers all very much appreciate help on the trails; with more adults, the more the class can split into small groups for observation and data collection. The classes scheduled for this Friday will have to be rescheduled because of our holiday program and minimum day, and next week Ms. Tapper and Ms. Santora’s 5th graders will be together on Tuesday morning.
Check the calendar at the top of this email, and see if you can come along when your child’s class is scheduled to explore the trails. You’ll be glad you did.
The Magic of Winter
Don’t forget – not only will Friday, December 16th (the last day of school before winter break) be a minimum day (dismissal at 12:40 pm), it’s also time for our holiday extravaganza: “The Magic of Winter.” Our students will be presenting a musical program featuring some new numbers as well as some old favorites. There will be two performances: 8:30 am and 11:00 am. Since I’m not sure I can get up the hill fast enough, we’ll skip the Friday morning assembly next week – but I hope to see many of our families in the auditorium to enjoy “The Magic of Winter.”
Enjoy the weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
