A message from TOPANGA ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL
What’s Coming Up This Week?
Sat Mar 23 Family Disco Night – 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the auditorium
Fri. Mar 29 Morning Assembly – 8:00 am
Mon Apr 01 César Chávez Day – No School
Traffic Duty for the Week: Mr. Harrell’s Class
Ms. Benor and a whole bunch of student volunteers gave us a great lesson on the scientific method this morning at our assembly. We then saw a remarkable demonstration of wave mechanics (using sticks and gummy bears), and a “roller coaster” lesson involving motion, inertia and some marbles. I think we are just about ready for that upcoming science fair now . . .
There are plenty of reasons why we ask students not to climb on our hillsides, but here is another reason – reptiles! Recently after school we had a snake sighting; no one was hurt, but it was on a hillside where students should not be climbing, and near a part of the parking lot where students should not be – and still, we’ve had to warn students away from the area. Please help us in reminding your child not to climb up on hillsides where they might disturb our plants and annoy animals – we have perfectly good paths and walkways you can safely follow!
If your child is in TK/K, remember we allow an extra fifteen minutes (until 8:15) for you to safely walk your child to their classroom.
Family Disco Dance Night is Tomorrow!
Saturday March 23 5-8pm in the school auditorium is a night you won’t want to miss! Parents, come dance to the disco music with your kids — we did this last year and everyone in attendance had a fantastic time. Food and drinks are included, just $20 per person to dance the night away. Kids, use the student council box in the school office to suggest your favorite songs for the DJ, or to let us know if you’d like to help with decorations, setup, posters, or any other part of the event! Join a committee to be a part! Parents, if you want to get involved or have questions, please contact email@example.com (310) 663-2571 mobile/text.

The 5th annual TECS Science Fair is April 9-10
We Need Judges!
We are very excited about the upcoming TECS Science Fair happening April 9-10 on the school campus. The kids are working hard on their projects and it promises to be a great time!
The entire school will be brought by to view the projects on the 10th. We are currently searching for volunteers to help with the judging on that day.
To be a volunteer judge, you do not need to know anything about science (so don’t worry!). You just need to be able to chat with each participant to hear their story, and find the most inspiring, novel, exciting or dangerous (!!) science projects.
Please let Chris Pernin (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you are interested in being one of the judges and approximately what time you can come by, and we’ll coordinate.
For more info and sign up details see: https://topangaelementarysciencefair.shutterfly.com
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
