Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Galindo’s Class
At this morning’s assembly I was caught off-guard and surprised as parents, teachers and even students put me in the spotlight. The kind words, gifts (I haven’t been to the Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in years) and cards were overwhelming. I am so thankful to be a part of the kind and generous school community we have here at Topanga Elementary. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Next week is the final week of school, and we will be following a different dismissal schedule than usual. Instead of getting out at 1:35 pm just on Tuesday and Thursday, we will be having our 1:35 pm dismissal every day from Monday – Thursday. Friday, however, is a minimum day, with dismissal at 12:40 pm. This is necessary because of the logistics involved in conducting our Fifth Grade Culmination.
Have you visited the Lost and Found lately? Better hurry – the clothes rack is nearly overflowing, and we’ll be donating it all in a week. If you’re missing a jacket or sweater – visit the Lost and Found today!
Topanga Elementary Science Committee, Topanga Town Council & The Mermaid present the 2nd Annual Butterfly Day — June 2, 2019 • 10am — 5pm
Butterfly Day is back at The Mermaid featuring live butterflies in the new Mermaid Butterfly House, native butterfly plants (plant your own butterfly garden!), environmental educational partners, a live bee hive, delicious food and drinks, face-painting, origami, seed bomb making, and art projects for kids. Live music by nationally-renowned artists Donna DeLory, Pearl Aday, plus Topanga rising stars, Aurora Finetti and Allegra Frost. Great fun for the whole family and the community to support the vital role of all pollinators in our eco-system. Admission is free!
Volunteers are needed for production, food preparation and donations, food and drink sales onsite, set-up and strike, Butterfly House monitors, docents, art projects and more.

Leadership Council Elections for 2019-2020
Seven calendar days have passed since I published the list of candidates in last week's Friday Focus.
Since today is the day of the 5th Grade trip and Monday is Track and Field Day, voting will continue until 4:00 pm on Tuesday, June 4th.
There is a ballot box and ballots in the main office so that parents can vote for their representatives to serve on the leadership council for the next school year. You will be asked to use two envelopes so we can preserve the secret ballot and account for all our families.
Here is the list of candidates: Koren Bertolli, Michael Burke, S. Miria Jo, Kayt Jones, Candice Klein-Pereira, Dina Lockridge Vetri, Sean Pereira, David Refslad, Amy Ruskin and J.B. Whittenburg.
In order to vote, your child must be enrolled in our school – and there is only one vote per family.
While it is one vote per family, families can vote for up to two candidates on the ballot. We will have two open positions, and those positions will go to the two candidates with the highest number of votes. The two alternate positions will be filled by the candidates who receive the next highest number of votes, respectively.
I am attaching a ballot and information leaflet to this email, and paper copies are available in the office.
