A message from TOPANGA ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL
What’s Coming Up?
Fri Aug 16 Prep and Polish Day – 9:00 – 11:00 am
Tue Aug 20 First Day of School
Fri Aug 30 Admissions Day – No School
Mon Sept 2 Labor Day – No School
Tue Sept 3 Back to School Night - 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break. My vacation ended last week when we reopened the school office. However, I had two very good weeks hiking in Utah and Colorado with my brother (my son had to stay and finish a summer school class).
The office is now open if you need to turn in enrollment packets, update student records, or just say hi.
You’ll be seeing some new faces here at Topanga Elementary when school begins on August 20th. Before school ended for the summer we found out that both Ms. Santora and Ms. Ripke were moving to other schools, but it wasn’t until the vacation that we learned that Ms. Winikoff would be leaving LAUSD to join a school district closer to where she lives.
We wish them all the best at their new schools, and we thank them for all they have given to our students.
Here are the names that you will be able to connect to new faces when school begins again on Tuesday, August 20th:
Dr. Amenta-Shin will be teaching 5th grade in Room 6, teaming with Ms. Tapper in Room 7.
Mr. Pook is our new resource teacher, working out of Room 8.
Ms. Appell will be in Room 11 teaching 2nd grade, teaming with Ms. Chatham in Room 12.
Ms. De La O and Ms. Tobisman will be teaming up to teach first grade in rooms 3 and 4, respectively.
Here Comes Prep and Polish - Friday August 16th 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Our first big school event of the new year is our traditional “Prep and Polish Day,” which is held on the Friday before the first week of school. While the first day of school for our students is Tuesday, August 20, on Friday, August 16th students and families who come on campus can help us get the school clean and ready, find out their new class assignments, and have a chance to sign up and get involved with our school through the many opportunities offered for parents to volunteer.
Since we know what a big step the first day of Kindergarten can be, we will be holding a meeting outside the Kinder classes 1 and 2 in the lower garden area. For the first day of school only, you can bring your TK/K student(s) by 8:45 am; at that time I will lead the orientation for new parents. You will be able to meet the TEP president, hear about ways you can volunteer and support the school, and so much more. I hope to see all new Kinder parents (or just parents new to our school) at the lower garden area at 8:45 am on the first day of school.
Speaking of volunteering, I will be holding meetings during the first few weeks of school to train new volunteers. If you need more information about opportunities to volunteer, come to Prep and Polish Day, or stop by the office.
Construction Near the Bridge
We’ve just been informed by CalTrans that they will be doing work on the motion sensors next to the bridge that makes up part of our Topanga School Road. Traffic is bad when the road is functioning at its best, so with added construction, traffic will be even worse. Please plan for extra time to get to school, just in case.
