Traffic Duty for the Week: Ms. Harrell’s Class
This morning I introduced our students to Ms. Abramowitz, the interim principal who will be here for the next few weeks until my successor is chosen.
As I said at the assembly this morning, I’m a Valley boy (I grew up in North Hollywood) who used to think that Topanga just meant that big boulevard in the west Valley, or a great hiking spot on the weekend. After five wonderful years here, I now know that Topanga is a special place of wonder and learning, and that this school will always have a place in my heart. I thank all our students and families who have personally expressed their appreciation to me. Thank you very much – I’ll miss you all.
A Message from Mr. Hansen
We will need to reschedule the parent meeting that was previously planned for Thursday, August 29th to Wednesday, September 4th at 8:15 a.m. The meeting will be held in the auditorium and the purpose is to gain input from stakeholders about principal characteristics. If you cannot attend the meeting, please take a few minutes to provide your recommendations for the school’s next leader using the link below. The information gathered from the survey will be reviewed by the Principal Selection Advisory Committee to identify the leadership characteristics that are important to the school community and will be used throughout the selection process. The survey link will close on Friday, September 6, 2019 at noon. Should you have any questions please reach me at (310) 914-2100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please know that your input is greatly appreciated.
2nd ANNUAL VARIETY SHOW!
Are you ready for the Variety Show? Magic acts. Dancing. Comedy. Bands. Instrumental ensembles. Singing. Spoken word... Anything goes! If you would like to submit a performance act for the show, please click on the link below to register for a slot at our “submissions session” in the auditorium from 3-6pm on Monday 9th Sept (the Variety Show itself is Friday 4th October). Your act doesn’t need to be 100% polished yet - the submissions session is simply for us to plan the show and work out any technical needs. We expect a lot of interest in the show this year, so highly encourage group ensembles to ensure everyone gets a chance to shine!
We will also have a gallery of visual art that represents our theme of "Fall Extravaganza". Should your child want to participate, art will be accepted from 9/27-10/2. Please email Lisa Davis with any questions: email@example.com
From kid wranglers to craft supervisions, we are also looking for volunteers to help during the submission session. Please consider joining here.
And here is where your children can sign up to attend the submission session to submit their act for the show.
Please have a parent accompany each act and arrive in plenty of time for your allocated slot. This year we will have a craft table set up where kids will help create elements that will become part of the stage set for the Variety Show.
A couple of important things to note: The submission session is fast and fun. Each act gets 3-5 minutes to queue up their music and share their vision. Because of this, we will not be able to have instrument set up and need to be quite streamlined. So, if your act requires a music backing track, please come with the track downloaded and ready to play. There is no wifi or mobile signal in the auditorium, so we cannot play from Spotify or web. Also, if your act is a band that requires drums or electric instruments, please send us a video submission to TopangaVAPA@gmail.com with subject: Variety Show Submission. Unfortunately there will not be time to set up equipment, nor the ability to plug in, during the in-person submission session.
We look forward to seeing you at the submissions session!
