This special Thursday edition of the Focus should serve as a final, effective reminder – NO SCHOOL TOMORROW (FRIDAY).
Tomorrow our nation observes Veterans Day (formerly Armistice Day – the end of World War One, the treaty being signed on 11/11 at 11:00). My family will be taking my dad, a Navy veteran who served in W.W.II, out to dinner tomorrow to thank him for his service. I hope everyone finds a way to say “thank you” tomorrow to those who have served our country.
Once again, I congratulate all of our Student Council candidates who showed courage and kindness during their campaigns. I was proud of all our students who participated in our election this week, and I look forward to working with our new Student Council as we continue to work hard to make Topanga Elementary Charter the best school possible!
Parent Workshop – Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 am in Room 8
I’ve been working with our new GATE coordinator, Ms. Tobisman and Alisa Land Hill, our GATE parent representative, on putting together our annual GATE plan for the school. In order to get input from all interested parents (not just parents of identified GATE students), we will be holding a morning workshop before school on Monday, Nov. 17. If you have questions about GATE, differentiated instruction or even Common Core standards, feel free to join us Monday morning in Room 8.
Girl Scouts of Topanga Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive
Act Local! The Girl Scouts, Cadets and Juniors, of Topanga are gathering canned and boxed food to donate to the West Valley Food Pantry in Woodland Hills. They provide about 10,000 meals to families in need each month. Please bring in canned or boxed food next week to help families have a wonderful Thanksgiving. All donations can be placed in the specially marked box in front of the school office until next Friday. Thank you for supporting us and the local community. Let's make a difference!
Have a Great Three Day Weekend,
Mr. Steve Gediman, Principal
