VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS (VAPA)
The Visual and Performing Arts Committee was established in 2017, to evaluate and suggest ways in which the arts program at Topanga Elementary Charter School can grow and improve.
Our goal is to further develop our school’s Arts program in order to provide meaningful and inspiring content for our children. We believe that by making art accessible to everyone, we strengthen our community and foster freedom of expression, creativity and the celebration of life through the arts.
During our first year, thanks to the support of the Leadership Council and TEP, we were able to achieve our milestone goal, to secure a designated Arts Room at the school! We also collected thoughts from a school-wide survey as to what the communities' priorities are in regards to arts at Topanga Elementary, and we will be using this information to guide the evolution of arts education. We developed and launched our first Art Lunch Club for kids to participate in art during recess. It was a great success and you will see a lot more of them!
Another milestone goal is the hiring of a dedicated Arts Teacher. In the meantime, we will be maintaining our current Art Trek program for 2018/2019. We are looking into collaborating with local artists to teach workshops. Plans are also underway to host a Fall Talent Show and Spring Musical.
There will be plenty of opportunities for you to participate in your child’s art education this year! Keep your eyes open for invitations from VAPA to get involved. We also hold regular open meetings that will be announced in the school calendar and Friday Focus.
We are looking for donations to help transform our currently empty work room into a fully-stocked Creative Space.
- Art supplies (various drawing and painting mediums, textiles, tools, canvas, paper, clay etc. etc.)
- Musical equipment
- Cleaning Supplies
- Drying Racks
- Modular furniture
- Art Books
- Smocks or Aprons
- Monetary donations are always appreciated!
The Arts Room is a multi-purpose space. If you have experience with designing modular spaces, please contact us.
Thank you for getting involved, with your support we have no doubt that we can elevate arts education at Topanga Elementary to new heights!
